Orb Weaver with Giuseppe Doronzo

Grond, Bijdorpstraat 1, Amsterdam

Orb Weaver return with a concert featuring baritone saxophonist Giuseppe Doronzo. Doronzo, a key member of the renowned world fusion AVA Trio, and power trio Futuro Ancestrale with Frank Rosaly and Andy Moor, is a rising star internationally. Orb Weaver features David Mitchell on guitar, Robbert van Hulzen on drums and Lorenzo Servali on bass - a description which does not do justice to the battery of effects, loopers and other enhancements they bring to bear on a layered and evolving soundscape that recalls electric Miles, Jeff Parker, and David Torn.

Orb Weaver with Gijs Levelt

Grond, Bijdorpstraat 1, Amsterdam

Orb Weaver returns with a second consecutive concert with Gijs Levelt. Following their first meeting at Grond in February, Orb Weaver (David Mitchell, guitar/electronics, Robbert van Hulzen (drums), Lorenzo Servali (bass)) were eager to continue the collaboration, so have invited the trumpeter/electronicist Gijs Levelt (Amsterdam Klezmer Band, Spinifex, Spoken) back for a second concert. Expect long form improvisations that recall On The Corner era Miles and Jon Hassell; using a battery of loopers, delays, and other enhancements, the musicians create an ever evolving soundscape with layer upon layer of real time composition.

Orb Weaver with Gijs Levelt

Grond, Bijdorpstraat 1, Amsterdam

Orb Weaver is a trio featuring Grond member David Mitchell (guitar, electronics), drummer Robbert van Hulzen and bassist Lorenzo Servali. The trio creates long form improvisations, mixing influences including The Necks, Jeff Parker’s ETA IVtet and experimental guitar pioneer David Torn. Orb Weaver’s monthly residency features diverse guest soloists from the top rank of Amsterdam’s improvised music, jazz and electroacoustic scenes: on February 6th we are delighted to welcome trumpeter Gijs Levelt; as well as being a founding member of the Amsterdam Klezmer Band and Spinifex, Gijs is also a highly regarded electro acoustic trumpet player, both solo and in his acclaimed Spoken Quartet. Trippy sounds emblematic of the interesting electro acoustic approach developing down in Oost right now.

Orb Weaver

Grond, Bijdorpstraat 1, Amsterdam

Debut of my new trio featuring Robbert van Hulzen on drums and Dominique Chabot on bass. Orb Weaver is named for spiders that create spiral webs - each constructed anew every day with simple materials and great ingenuity; our music is constructed through long-form patient improvisation, remaining mostly tonal and using only guitar, bass and drums. We draw on the inspiration of other great long form improvisers such as The Necks, Jeff Parker's ETA IVtet and seminal electric recordings by Miles Davis. Tickets 10 Euros (7 for concessionary rates); 5 December at 8PM
